ESL & Bilingual

Rahway Public Schools' ESL and Bilingual programs are available for all English Language Learners from grades Kindergarten to 12. Of the total 4,300 students enrolled in Rahway Public Schools, there are approximately 350 English Language Learners in grades K-12. Although there are more than fifteen different languages spoken by our students and their families the most commonly spoken language is Spanish, which is the language of Rahway's bilingual program.

Rahway Public Schools offers a Bilingual Spanish Program at Franklin Elementary Schools in grade K-3. The goal of the program is to help Spanish-speaking English Language Learners master the state standards and the district's curriculum in their native language as they acquire the English language, with the eventual goal of transitioning into the English monolingual classroom. This is accomplished through explicit instruction in listening, reading, writing, and speaking in all academic areas.

Rahway Public Schools offers an ESL program in K-12. At the elementary level, students receive a combination of push-in and pull-out ESL instruction each day, and at the secondary level, students receive daily high-intensity ESL instruction for two class periods. The goal of the ESL program is to support students' English language development while ensuring the mainstream grade-level curriculum in all content areas in accessible to all English Language Learners.
