STEM Summer Camp
We invite you to join us for the second Rahway STEM Summer Camp. This camp is designed for students’ grades 5, 6, 7 and 8, with a passion for Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM).
Students will learn the fundamentals of inquiry-based science and math activities that grow in complexity from teacher-initiated and teacher-guided activities into student- initiated and student-led investigations.
Without calling it math, participants use the themes of driving, transportation, and motor sports to learn how to look for patterns in data and proactively use graphs to solve problems. Without naming it science, they apply Newton’s Laws of Motion and experience the difference between work and power.
Students will build high powered radio-controlled cars using engineering, math, and science principles. They will be challenged at the end of each week to compete against other team members for a demonstration of knowledge, skill, and teamwork they learned. Competitions will be held every Friday.
The camp is led by certified math and science teachers and based upon STEM project-based curriculum. Participation is limited for each grade level. Camp hours are from 9:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., July 20th - August 7th, 2015. Students will be in air conditioned classrooms at the Rahway 7th and 8th Grade Academy.
