    INTRO TO DANCE, DANCE I & DANCE II

    COURSE DESCRIPTION

    This course introduces dance as a performing art, focusing on the dance forms of Ballet, Jazz and Tap, their historical development and cultural characteristics.  Additional course topics include concepts in choreographing dances, critiquing dance works and establishing a strategy to improve personal dance technique

     

    COURSE REQUIREMENTS

    ·         Participate in learning dance warm-ups , floor progressions, combinations and full length dances

    ·         Complete all written assignments before the due date

    ·         Attend a live dance concert and offer a written critique

    ·         Utilize dance terminology while creating dances

    ·         Notate all dance choreography projects

     

    COURSE OBJECTIVES

    ·         Identify various dance styles and their characteristics

    ·         Identify major contributions to the field of dance and their contributors

    ·         Identify important components in the training of dancers

    ·         Identify trends in social dance

     

    COURSE STRUCTURE

     

                    Mon/Tues – Jazz Class –warm ups, floor progressions, combinations and dances

                    Wed/Thurs-Tap Class- warm ups, floor progressions, combinations and dances

    Friday-week in review, quizzes, and additional dance styles presented, dance history and choreography projects

    50%                        Class Participation

    25%                        Performance Projects

    25%                        Written Assignments
