About OurSchool

Roosevelt School
is the largest of the four elementary schools in Rahway
and houses over 650 students. The school
staff prides itself on providing a student-friendly, family oriented
environment. The relationship of
cooperation and mutual respect among parents, students and staff enables this
environment to flourish. Many
activities planned throughout the year nurture this sense of safety and
well-being. Roosevelt’s
instructional program focuses on the Core Curriculum Content Standards which
are references to the appropriate standard. Written standards are then transferred
into action within the classroom. Our
teachers receive extensive in-service training in science, math, language arts
literacy and technology which results in lessons being taught in an innovative
and motivating style. Inquiry-based
lessons combined with many opportunities for hand-on experiences are producing
students who perform well. The
school’s curricula are supported by an extensive and well planned
technology program. All students in
grades Pre-K through five have access to computers and the Internet in their
classrooms. Everyday Math is
designed to develop a variety of successful problem-solving strategies and
techniques for students in all grades.
The Language Arts Program, Trophies, is a research-based early literacy
program that provides for the unique needs of a diverse classroom. Accelerated Reader, a computerized,
managed reading program has resulted in over 20,000 books being read during the
school year and is supported by parents through the PTA, With the support of a
state grant, PBSIS (Positive Behavior Support in Schools) a new program to
encourage and support positive behavior for students has begun. The “whole child” is
considered at Roosevelt School
with the academic program enhanced through a comprehensive physical educational
and health program, vocal and instrumental music, art, and library
programs. The positive learning
environment at Roosevelt School is the result of dedicated and caring staff and
administrators, motivated students, and supportive parents and guardians.
