Congratulations to the 2009-2010 AP students who were recently honored at the Rahway High School Advanced Placement Awards Ceremony held on August 18, 2010. Twenty-six RTHS students earned a grade of 3,4, or 5 on the May Advanced Placement Examinations in the areas of mathematics, science, and English taken by them. Overall, forty-five grades of 3 or higher were earned in all AP areas this past year. As a result of and due to the generous sponsorship of the Marianthi Foundation, an organization lead by retired Merck CEO, P. Roy Vagelos and his Associate Director and son, Andrew Vagelos, the students earned financial rewards. This evening's event was moderated by Mr. Edward Yergalonis, Superintendent of Schools. Once again, congratulations to all award winners.

Rahway Water Champions Save Water, Save School Money

RHS Water Champions    RHS Water Champions   RHS Water Champions

Rahway High School's Social Action Club, led by faculty Advisor, Liz Jotz, and AmeriCorp Watershed Ambassador, Steven Hruby, recently completed pre-water audits in a heavily trafficked restroom and calculated a cost-benefit analysis, showing new fixtures would save over $6,500 in water costs yearly. They presented preliminary findings to the Rahway Board of Education, American Standard, U.S. EPA, New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP), and the Rutgers Cooperative Extension Water Resources Program. Their presentation led American Standard to donate $60,000 of new fixtures to update the entire high school with water saving fixtures.Pictures include retiring Rahway High School Principal Paula Braxton providing words of encouragement to her students, and water partners from American Standard, Rutgers, Americorp, local, state and federal government with school and district administrators.
