Give2TheTroops
Franklin School Students GIVE2THE TROOPS- Students at Franklin School in Rahway held a school-wide community service
project where students brought in items for individuals serving in the armed
forces. The school donated items through an organization called Give2TheTroops,
a nationwide charitable organization serving deployed and wounded troops.
Give2TheTroops's goal is to support the physical, moral and spiritual health
through providing letters and care packages. Through Franklin School's strong participation, over 600 items
were collected and donated. The school's Blue and Gold Club, facilitated by
Mrs. Valerie Oliver and Mrs. Raffaella Nicoll, play a strong part in the collection and
organization of the items before they were delivered to Give2TheTroops. The
school was visited by Captain Ryan VanVeelan, a
helicopter pilot for the United States Air Force. Captain VanVeelan
spoke to students about his experiences in Iraq and his responsibilities as a
helicopter pilot..
