Madison Elementary School

Madison School is located in the western part of Rahway. Our current enrollment is 304 students, from preschool through grade five. Our preschool is a half day program which is located in our new Early Literacy Wing. We have two classes per grade level in grades K, 1, 3, 4 and 5. Our 2^nd Grade has three classes. Our students receive instruction in Art, Music, Physical Education, and Library. Some students are in our Gifted and Talented program, and others get extra help from our Basic Skills and Resource instructors.

Our older students participate in Writers Club where they do creative writing for the school web page. We also have after school Math Tutoring by Rahway High School Math Club and National Honor Society students.

In addition to focusing on our children’s’ academic growth, we have initiated a Character Education Program because Madison School is “Where Character Counts.” Each month we address a character theme that promotes positive choices by highlighting a word and quote for the week. Students are encouraged to be wise when making choices and to recognize the positive and negative implications of their daily decisions.

Madison students are involved in several community based activities. During the fall we have a coat drive. We have a Thanksgiving Food Drive with the Blue Tri Club from Rahway High School and during the month of December we participate in “Toys for Tots.” All year 'round our students participate in "Feed the Hungry" by donating their spare change to help those less fortunate.

At Madison School we follow the curriculum adopted by the Board of Education. Our teachers use a variety of teaching strategies to address the learning styles of all students. We have a Dell Computer Lab, as well as individual computers in the classrooms. Each classroom has internet access.
